d30 Challenge Day 2

d30 Challenge Day 2
This is my 2nd entry in the d30 Challenge, which is a bastardization of an idea I first saw on Mark "CMG" Clover's feed. Now I'm a sucker for these things and I know some folks aren't so while I'm committed to answering one question about my favorite hobby each day, and putting together a d30 table before the end of the month, I know not everyone is so interested. I'll put the question & answer after the break, posting late in the day, and not promoting this on G+ so those who don't like this kind of thing should be exposed only minimally.

I think this is the best I can do....
Day 2's question is "Favorite PC Race".

This is a bit of a hard one for me. One one hand I have a soft spot for Elves and in the past have played more Elves than anything else. Actually whenever I try a new game system for the 1st time I pretty much always make an Elven Archer, assuming that is a possibility. This lets me compare & contrast the system I'm trying out with others I've played in the past.

My 1st HackMaster PC was an Elven Archer named Waydol and by the time I finished playing HackMaster 4th Edition he was a bonafide bad-ass. I had reached a high-enough level in the HackMaster Association that I had earned what was called a Serial-Numbered Item (SNI). AN SNI is a special piece of magical gear, essentially a low-level artifact, that granted a couple specific bonuses and something else that was extra special. It had to be a piece of headgear and I think mine was called "Waydol's Headband of Awesomeness". It gave a +2 AC and +2 to saving throws, increased the crit range and rate of fire for longbows by +1.

I tended towards Human PCs for a while and lately, at least with this new edition of HackMaster, I've been leaning towards Dwarves as my favorite PC race. The thing is when I create a new PC I come up with a concept and then just pick whatever I think works best towards that central idea. My current PC was built around the idea of smashing opponent's shields in combat....which I've only managed to do like two time by almost 8th level. Hell, the fricken cleric has done it twice in as many weeks....

...needless to say I'm not always spot-on with my character concepts.
