Full Thrust: Project Continuum is a SciFi Strategy Wargame. Not really my cup of tea, but I'm sure there are plenty who feel otherwise. A quick search says that Full Thrust is available for free, and I don't know how this version fits into the series, but the title page states they have proper permissions from the Copyright holders. It appears that this flavor is combination of two earlier rulesets with a generous helping of house rules.
Cool thing is, if you like what you see here, you can go straight to Ground Zero Games and pick up the earlier rulesets for free. GZG is the place you'll want to pick up *official* starship models. I'm guessing that's where they make their money, so that's a big part of why these rules are free.
Neat! I have the Power Projection: Fleet variation from BITS, an adaptation of Full Thrust for Traveller ships. I see there's also Full Trek, although I can't find the TOS PDF.
ReplyDeleteJon Tuffley (owner and sole worker at GZG) does, indeed, make all his money through sales of miniatures, which he produces entirely in-house. He turned further development of his game systems over to the fan base many years ago to concentrate on the figure ranges, and (while things have quieted down over the last few years) the folks at Emerald Coast Skunkworks have been the most organized producers of re-edited, collated, and expanded material for Full Thrust. There are other sites out there with less organized collections of FT house rules, scenarios, ship conversion stats from popular IPs and other manufacturers. My own Broken Stars & Burning Ships blog (at brokenstarsburningships.blogspot.com) features painted figure galleries of a large part of the GZG starship range, as well as some homebrew rules that my local group has slowly adopted over the last thirty years or so.
ReplyDeleteSo yes, if you like the rules throwing some miniatures orders his way would be a good way to show appreciation. His catalog is enormous (especially for a one-man operation) and there's bound to be something for anyone. His reputation for fast, reliable order fulfillment is among the best in the industry.
Jon also makes two ground combat scifi rule sets. Stargrunt is designed for platoon-level skirmishes focused on infantry in 15mm or 25-28mm scale. Dirtside is designed for 6mm vehicle-focused combat, but playable up to 15mm scale without needing too large a table. I'd recommend checking them out under GZG's free rules downloads. They're still quite popular, especially among fans of Traveller and 2300, and Stargrunt's approach to morale remains one of the most realistic I've seen in a half century of minis gaming.
